Why write a blog – not just because everyone else is…

What is a ?Blog??  Shorthand for ?Weblog,? a blog offers an easy way to present brief chunks of frequently refreshed Web content.

Blogging has been a steadily increasing practice for most companies over the past few years, regardless of size, specialty and location. 2011 was no exception, as B2B marketers increased their use of blogs by 27%, making blogs the 3rd most common Content Marketing activity, behind articles and social media (CMI, March 2012).

So there you go, blogging is an extremely effective form of content marketing.   As a marketer or business owner in the B2B world, if you?re not already writing and using blogs to promote your company, you should consider it as a tool.  It is cost effective, quick and done properly; it will generate leads for your business by increasing your website traffic.

If you agree with any of the following objectives, then blogging should be part of your marketing strategy.

Objective Result
You want more leads. Through a company blog you can create more web pages. Companies that blog generate, on average, 67% more leads than companies that don?t.

You want to improve your search engine rankings. A regularly updated blog will be constantly indexed by the search engines, enhancing your organic search results and increasing your readership.  Search engines love blogs!
You want to promote your expertise and talk informatively about timely business topics and issues. Thought-leading content will position you as an authority in the industry, enabling you to influence the decision-making process of your readers.

You want feedback directly from your customers and prospects in order to adapt and grow your business. Due to the ?personal? feel of blogging, it is very effective at opening up opportunities to engage in conversation, especially if you welcome comments at the bottom.
You want an easy way to create content for your other social media activities. Blogs are perfect fuel for social media and are widely shared across social media networks, getting your brand in front of people who otherwise might not have known you existed.

If you?re not blogging already, and you have the capabilities to do so, you should seriously consider it ? because your competitors probably are, too.
