Why using videos is a great way to improve SEO
We all know that technology is moving fast and it?s really difficult to try and stay ahead of the game. I was surprised to hear recently that YouTube is the second most used search engine, behind Google.
One thing we?re doing at Appletree more and more is advising our clients to use videos as part of their everyday marketing activity.
Many of our clients are now successfully using video clips across a number of marketing channels, and they are finding that they really are working well for them.
Some tips for using video clips:
- Always put the audience and subject matter first – talk about what you know, but in easy to understand way – it?s for your customers, not your peers.
- Never create a video just based on the length of it – less than 3 minutes is the ideal time before people ?switch off?.
- Never put a video into an actual email – it will be too big for many servers.
- Include it in your newsletters – if you email them just use a link to the YouTube clip – it really brings your newsletter to life and adds another dimension to it.
- Don?t send people directly to YouTube – send them to your website instead and embed the YouTube video code there (it?s really simple and quick to do).
- Add a resources tab to your website and add the embedded video each time you make one – this again keeps your website fresh and regularly updated, great for SEO.
From a marketing standpoint it?s a great tool that you should consider because of search and SEO – Google looks for relevant and updated content and this can help in increasing or maintaining your rankings.
It?s relatively cheap – video camera technology is now available on most phones and as long as the picture and sound are clear, you?re not going to be pulled for not being Steven Spielberg!
To be successful these days you have to create new content which is centred on customer needs. Just make sure it?s relevant to your business and you can use it across many platforms. Give it a try, or contact us to help you use video in your marketing. Marketing that works = more customers.
