Why Carry Out a Website Audit
Appletree’s website review (audit) is designed to ensure your website reflects best practices according to design, content and search engine optimisation. The objective of the audit is to make recommendations to improve the website design, increase conversion rates and better site performance.
What’s involved?
Typically an audit will involve Appletree going through every aspect of your site as if they were a first-time visitor and potential customer.
When do an audit?
- If your website or blog bounce rate is above 70%
- You get a decent amount of traffic, but few sales
- Visitors stay on your site for a minute or less
- Your site has moved lower in the search engine rankings for no apparent reason
- You want to make sure your landing pages are built to increase conversions.
The review will cover the following aspects of your website:
Design
- Navigation issues – can people move around your site logically?
- Design errors – are there any broken links
- Coding bugs – they can disrupt visitor behaviour so need to be identified and fixed
Content
- Does it fit with company branding?
- Does it tell me what your company does?
- Does it ‘ease my pain?’
- Does it compel me to take action?
SEO – Analytics findings
- Source overview – where are your customers coming from?
- Keywords – are there any used in the content and meta data? Are they the right keywords?
- Snapshot of visitor behaviour: Average no. Visits, average time on site
- Meta data & descriptions, Headings and Titles – are these present for the following: Web pages, blogs, videos.
Once we’ve audited the site using these criteria, we’ll make recommendations to improve its performance. If you’ve invested in a website, make sure it’s working to its full potential for you.
