Tumblr in business: Should I be using it?
More and more businesses are starting to understand how important social media is and what it can do. Does that mean that your business should create an account for every social media website out there? In short, no. You should do some research and find what social media can work for you. Lets talk Tumblr.
Firstly, what is Tumblr? Like a few other social media websites, Tumblr is one of the fastest growing websites around. First set up in 2007, the micro blogging site has a strong 86.8 million blogs generating millions of hits a day. Tumblr allows you to post videos, photos, links, text and audio files as blogs. Like Twitter and Facebook the idea is to build a following and encourage people to ‘re-post’ the information you post.
Apart from the SEO benefits it can have towards your website, blogging is actually very good for your digital marketing campaign. Through blogging you can show off your expertise in a specific subject of your choosing, reinforce company brand/image and you can use blogging as a great engagement tool with your clients. If you’re worried you don’t have time for blogging then Tumblr is for you. Through Tumblr you can blog short amounts of content, therefore taking up less of your time. One of the main advantages of using Tumblr is it really requires the user to be creative when uploading a blog. Think visual and draw your audience in. For people such as myself, too much text is very off putting. Images and videos are a brilliant way of displaying content; personally I find it far more engaging.
Other benefits of using Tumblr are it’s free, it’s easy to use, and it’s another method of reaching potential clients. A little bit of advice though, if you’re going to post videos or photos then make sure you use a good quality camera. As Tumblr is a highly visual and creative social media site you want to upload good quality photos and videos.
