“What Do You Do?”

Have you noticed how, at every networking meeting you go to, there are people who start a conversation by asking “What do you do?” And have you noticed how most people either don’t like being put on the spot to answer that question; or they don’t have a good (concise) answer?

I’ve never enjoyed being asked that question. It feels as if the person asking it just wants a quick answer, so that they can get on with telling me what they do! So I’m on a mission to get business owners looking at different ways to open conversations, which really allow you to get to know the person you’re talking to. There are so many other questions you could ask, that help you find a real connection with the other person. They show that you’re interested in them – and that you’re not just interested in selling to them!
