How to Create an Effective Keyword List

A common theme of our blogs on marketing is keywords.  Thankfully they are no longer mis-used by some and ?stuffed? on web pages to achieve high search engine rankings.  This means that it?s even more important to get your keywords right, as you?ve got a better chance of ranking highly now that the search engines can see passed the ?stuffers?.

Whilst important, it doesn?t have to take too much of your time to come up with some effective keywords for your website and blogs.   Here are a few tips on how to get some great keywords for your site – just remember,  it needs to be done regularly.

Have a look at the web page you want to optimise, and think of the keywords or phrase that you want the page to rank highly for.  Enter that phrase into a search engine (one which offers instant keyword prediction, such as Google) and see the list of phrases that appear as you type.  Use any relevant ones as your keyword phrases – they are good ones as the search engines will only present results they think people are looking for.  Do this with various words and terms and you?ll get a load of ideas to use for your site – you?ve built a keyword list.

If you?ve got Google Analytics set up on your site, have a look at the search terms people are using to find your site.  Enter these into Google in the same way and you can build your list.

Try it and see what results you get – you might be surprised by what people are searching for to find your site (or your competitors!).
