How Do You Tweet Outside the Office?
It is recommended that your business/business leader should be tweeting every 30-60 minutes, so if we took that statistic into a working day – Monday 9-5, this would suggest that you tweet between 8-16 times a day. That’s a lot and who has the time to tweet that many times?
We know why you should be using Twitter – if you need a reminder, have a look at one of my previous blogs ? Why should you use twitter? But how do you find the time to tweet so many times a day? At Appletree we use a scheduling service called SocialOomph. SocialOomph is a really useful tool as it allows us to schedule tweets for weeks (even months) in advance. Not only will SocialOomph let you schedule tweets, but it lets you set auto DM’s to you new followers, schedule blogs, test your RSS feed and so much more.
Of course other scheduling services are available – two of the most popular being Hootesuite or TweetDeck. We have used both these services and can recommend using them as they are very easy to use and get the job done.
By scheduling your tweets in advance you can put your mind at ease and have all of your social media updates still going out when you’re not in the office. The main reason to schedule your tweets though is consistency, it’s always best to keep consistency and leave no gaps. If you were to tweet four days a week and leave out Tuesday then it will look unprofessional on your account. Another valid point is it keeps the social engagement. If you’re still tweeting updates and links then you are still giving the people the option to communicate with you – through re-tweets, replies or favourites.
It doesn’t take too long to do, for example to load a week’s tweets for Appletree – we tweet roughly 13 times a day, it will take us roughly 10/15 minutes. Scheduling isn’t going to take a mass chunk out of your day but it will keep your Twitter account active and very much alive.
