Facebook Creates Job Board, but is it Taking Over?

Facebook has recently announced its plans to integrate a job search feature to its website, however this addition could have a negative impact on professional networking site, LinkedIn.

The multibillion dollar company plans to launch the job search app in early August this year. The job board will be available to the millions of Facebook users by grouping together 3rd party provider?s posts. So how does this effect LinkedIn? Firstly though what is LinkedIn? LinkedIn is a social networking site that is business-oriented; it is aimed at users in professional occupations and is very useful for business recruitment. This new Facebook change will affect LinkedIn as job searching is one of LinkedIn?s primary features.

Experts have given this new service very mixed reviews. Some say LinkedIn will easily survive, but others say Facebook will crush LinkedIn. Many of the experts agree that Facebook will emerge victorious due to numbers. Facebook currently has a Goliath 901 million active users against LinkedIn?s David 161 million. But do numbers mean everything? No they don?t, because business users on Facebook like having another social networking site where they can discuss purely business.

I personally cannot see this new change being that much of a threat to LinkedIn. The majority of people in employment like to keep business and pleasure separate. This is why LinkedIn does not have photos of kittens and the latest info on celebrities. You will also notice that users use Facebook for a personal reason where as LinkedIn is more work-centric.

There is no denying it, Facebook is an extremely impressive enterprise and it has grown massively since Zuckerberg launched it from his Harvard dormitory room. But do we want this addition? Do we want to mix business and pleasure? I can honestly tell you that I do not.
