Do You Know How Your Clients Feel About Working with You?


If you’ve heard me speak about the StandOut Strategies, or you’ve read about them in one of my blogs, or in my new book (called StandOut Strategies, of course) you’ll know how important it is to find out how your clients feel about working with you.
But how do you go about finding out? It’s not rocket science, but I will try to fill a whole blog with the what, the why and the how for you!
How Are They Feeling?
Whatever service your business sells, people will buy because of how they feel, when they experience that service. Most of our decisions are made emotionally (and subconsciously) and then anchored by rational (conscious) reasoning. This means that for your business to stand out, you have to understand the emotions behind the buying decisions that your clients make.
In my new book I explain how I’ve taken the five emotional reasons that guide buying decisions and have developed them into five strategies that you can use to promote your business. Using one, or maybe two of these strategies, will allow your business to really stand out from your competitors. This is because you’ll be making emotional connections with your prospects and clients – connections that are aligned with their own personal wants and needs.

In preparation for taking the test, you’ll need to think about how your clients feel when they work with your business. So often, when I’m speaking to groups of coaches, consultants or speakers, in workshops or talks, one of the most frequent questions I’m asked is this: “How to I find out how my clients feel about working with me?”
Just Ask!
What’s the best way to find out? Ask your clients! You can look at reviews and testimonials that your clients have written, but it’s not often that people write about how they ‘feel’ about a supplier or partner. You need to know what emotions your clients experience when working with your business.
How do they feel after a coaching session, or when you walk off stage from a speech or seminar? The best way to collect this information from clients is by asking them, “How do you feel when you work with me? How do you feel after spending time with us?”
Pick up the phone and speak directly to your clients. Book a video call. Arrange to visit your client and ask them questions, face to face, across a cup of coffee.
Listen to what they say and record the emotions and feelings they share with you. If they tell you that they like working with you, or that they appreciate the results you get for them, that’s great, but you need more. Prompt them to talk to you about what they feel after interactions with anyone from your business.
But I Don’t Like Asking
Few of us are great at asking our clients what they really think about working with us. We worry that we might not like what we hear. Whatever your clients tell you, it will be useful for the development of your business. To make it easier to ask clients how they feel about working with your business, tell them you’re doing some research, so that you can provide them with a better service. Let them know that you’d appreciate their help by answering questions about why they work with you. Asking for help is a brave step and your clients will respect your business more for asking them.
