6 Months Down The Line
6 months down the line
I am now in the sixth month of my apprenticeship! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been working for Appletree for half a year; everything is becoming second nature to me. I am still learning lots but I do feel like a young confident upcoming marketer – let’s hope that my boss thinks the same in my 6 month review next week!
It’s been a busy month. I would say that I’ve been keeping the social media department of Appletree busy. Being a key member of the social media department I can tell you the work load has been heavy. In the past month I have spent a lot of time working on client’s social media accounts and produced some fantastic results. The results have been so good that I have managed to increase web activity on one of our client’s websites by 100%. So my skills in social media have come along quite a lot and we are really increasing social media into our clients marketing activities.
As well as social media, I have of course been working on a various other marketing efforts, the majority of which is writing. Writing is crucial in many jobs, especially marketing. Writing really isn’t my strong suit as I am much more of a verbal person. Whenever I am asked to write I almost panic and get a massive mental block. My boss is fully aware of this, so is naturally throwing a lot of writing tasks my way. I am very grateful for this as it really does help to improve my writing ability and this is something I need to overcome if I am going to develop as a marketer.
The academic side of my apprenticeship has really come a long this month. This is purely down to my mentor, Debbie. She has been nothing but supportive of my apprenticeship and has really pushed me to do well recently. Debbie I cannot thank you enough. I have been writing a lot of essays and completing assignments which is fantastic – my apprenticeship portfolio is really coming along and I am so pleased.
I recently sat a few English exams this month. I did very well – achieving 100% in one of them. However on one exam I had a few comments which got me thinking about education. I personally think that what we learn in our academic years are sometimes not true to real life. Have you ever heard “when you’re learning to drive, you’re learning to pass your test. Once you passed your test you learn to drive.?” I do sometimes feel this towards the college side of things. However between Appletree and my own research, my brain is being filled with so much marketing knowledge that I think I think I’ll be fine in the marketing world.
Just one more month and then its Christmas! I am a massive fan of Christmas and cannot wait to take some well-deserved time off and enjoy it with the family, fiancé and friends. Now just to make sure that all of the work is completed in time for Christmas.
