Real Marketing vs Ranking ‘Fixers’ – the Battle Continues …

I’ve been writing about how SEO should be approached from a true marketing perspective for what seems like an age now. Back in autumn 2012 I wrote a series of blogs, starting with ‘Why clever marketing is genuinely good for SEO at last‘. This was due to the fact that at the time of writing, there were many companies out there guaranteeing ‘number 1 rankings’ for companies and brands; and charging a fortune for doing so. The result has been, I think, pretty damaging for genuine marketing practitioners who understand how to really achieve SEO – the right way.

SEO should be a result of good marketing activity. Here’s a top tip for achieving good SEO (not told to you by those ‘UK based, proven strategy to achieve no. 1 rankings’ types).

Don’t try and achieve it!

Focus on these simple tips instead:

– Understand what your customers? pain points are – and how your company / brand address these pain points.
– Do some keyword research – understand what you customers and prospects are looking for online.
– Create copy that talks to your customers, identifying their pain points and setting out how your service / product can help.
– Use this content for your website copy; blogs; social media updates – everywhere you are online.
– Regularly update this copy, ensuring it is useful and relevant to you.
– If you have a non-tecchie user-friendly CMS – use the keywords identified to update your meta data – page titles, meta descriptions etc. That’s as tecchie as it gets.

That’s it, SEO organically achieved. No strings, no contract, no big Google Ad fees, just measurable results.

So you see – content is king, strategically guided by the queen of marketing!
