Is a Mobile Optimised Website Important for Your Business?

Do you own a smart phone or tablet device? If so then it’s pretty safe to say that you’ve used to it to surf the web.  Each year more and more money is pumped into the development of new smart phones and mobile devices, meaning more and more people are using them. Is your website optimised to meet this new generation?

It is predicted that by 2015 there will be the same amount of mobile phones as people worldwide. It is predicted in 2013 that 20% of the mobile market will be made up of tablet devices. In 2013 it is predicted that more people will surf the internet using a smart phone or tablet than a PC.  Lastly, over 60% of mobile users will click off your website if it takes over 3 seconds to load.

To me these numbers suggest that websites need to keep up with the game and get optimized for a mobile device or lose out on sales. Despite these stats more and more business leaders still don’t understand why it is important for their business to optimise their websites for mobile devices.

Many businesses (including Google) have done their market research and found out how a mobile optimised site can actually affect their business.  Some key points worth considering from the survey are the following:

  • Mobile sites lead to action. Research has found that compared to PC users, mobiles users are far more likely to buy a product or service from your website.
  • If they don’t like your site they’re going elsewhere. If your site isn’t optimised for mobiles then chances are they’re on your competitor’s site. Research has found that 40% mobiles users that don’t enjoy your website will go elsewhere.
  • No recommendations for a poor site. Research has shown that mobile users are 57% likely to not recommend your website if they’ve not enjoyed their experience.
  • Damage image brand. Mobiles users get very frustrated trying to navigate a website that isn’t optimised for a mobile. Surveys show that mobile users feel the business is ‘out of date’/’behind in the times’ by not having a mobile site.

Is your website optimised for mobile viewing? If it isn’t then how do you think it is affecting your business?
