Do You Speak the Language of Your Clients?

Last week I was invited to an SEO webinar. It was only an hour long but still I got some useful tips out of it. Whilst on the call the speaker gave a few business stories about client communication.

One of the stories I would like to share with you begins across the Atlantic. A few years ago an American started up a business selling Russian brides to American men. The business was doing OK for itself and making money, however being such a competitive market how long would this last? The business owner decided to do some research on his current clients. Was there a pattern in his client list? Did they share anything in common? After much research he found that 80% of his clients were long distance truck drivers. How could this information be used to full advantage? The business owner now knew where to advertise his business and how to communicate with them. Adverts were put up in truck stops along motorways and the wording of the adverts was made appealing to truck drivers.

I know that by now you are wondering what a Russian mail order bride service has got to do with marketing. After the business owner discovered his key market and learnt how to communicate with it, he became a multi millionaire. I’m not advising you to leave your job and start a mail order company for UK truckers, but think how this story can be applied to your business.

It is always worth looking at your client list and identifying a pattern. How can you use this to your advantage to get more clients? How do you communicate with your clients? If you would like any tips or any further information on how to communicate with your clients then please send me an email.
